Construction Support

Sustainable Science, LLC stays on the project through construction, staking the design, administering the contract, answering the contractor, adjusting in the field, and surveying the as-built work.

Our approach

Restoration projects are built in water, mud, and tight sites, so we expect to adjust them in the field. We set survey control, stake structures and grades with RTK GPS, and review submittals and materials before they arrive. During construction we observe the work, coordinate with the contractor and the owner, and issue redlines when a gate, a tree, or a tide changes the plan, getting agency acceptance for the revision when one is needed. We track quantities and placement against the plans, close out the punch list, and survey the completed work to produce signed as-built plans and GIS deliverables. Where the permit requires it, we continue with post-construction monitoring and annual reports.

Typical analyses and design considerations

  • Survey control and RTK GPS construction stakeout
  • Pre-construction meeting and site walk
  • Submittal and material review
  • Construction observation and site visits
  • Contractor coordination and owner communication
  • Field adjustments, redlines, and agency acceptance
  • Quantity and placement tracking
  • Punch list and project closeout
  • As-built survey, signed plans, and CAD and GIS deliverables
  • Post-construction monitoring and annual reporting

Project applications

Living shoreline and breakwater construction, treatment wetland and stream construction, dredged material placement, and stormwater retrofits where design intent has to survive contact with the site.
