About us - A coastal and ecological engineering firm rooted in the Chesapeake Bay.

Sustainable Science, LLC provides coastal and ecological engineering services focused on restoring and protecting shorelines, wetlands, streams, and stormwater systems. Our work combines practical engineering, ecological restoration, regulatory experience, and construction-phase insight to help clients implement resilient, environmentally responsible projects.

We work with communities, nonprofits, municipalities, private landowners, and environmental organizations, regularly coordinating with agencies such as the Maryland Department of the Environment, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, local counties, and municipalities.

Our practice took root in the Chesapeake Bay watershed, and today we work in Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New York, and other states as projects call for it. We are a fully remote team with no office to be near. We travel to the site, wherever it is, rather than asking the project to come to us.

Our approach - Balanced design grounded in engineering, ecology, and constructability.

Restoration projects succeed when technical rigor, ecological intent, regulatory experience, and field reality come together. We bring all four to every project.

  • Engineering. Coastal analysis, hydrology, hydraulics, grading, and stabilization details that hold up in the field.
  • Ecology. Habitat-focused design (marsh creation, native vegetation, stream and floodplain function) informs the project from the start.
  • Permitting. Practical regulatory coordination with Maryland Department of the Environment, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and local agencies.
  • Construction. Construction observation, contractor coordination, and field adjustments that translate plans into built work.
  • Clients. Communities, nonprofits, municipalities, private landowners, and environmental organizations.
  • Where we work. Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New York, and any other state a project calls for.

Let's discuss your project

Shoreline restoration, wetland and stream restoration, stormwater retrofits, coastal resiliency, permitting, or construction-phase support. We'd like to hear about it.

Where we work
